The Department Of Urology was established at PMC/Allied Hospital in April, 1999. It is supervised by Prof. Dr. Zahid Iqbal. This Department has been recognized for FCPS training by the College Of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan and for MS training by the University Of Health Sciences, Lahore Pakistan.

Urology is a rapidly developing specialty in the world. Last decade has seen new addition of modern armamentarium in the field of genitor-urinary surgery. Minimal invasive techniques in Urology have revolutionized the patient’s management. Urology is a very vast subject. It has been further divided into nine branches:

General Urology
Pediatric Urology
Urogynacology
Endourology
Reconstructive Urology
Andrology
Uro-Oncology
Urolithiasis
Renal Transplantation

Faisalabad is the 3rd Biggest City of Pakistan. Keeping in view the dire need of the specialty in the region, the Department Of Urology was established at PMC/Allied Hospital in April, 1999.
The Urology Section is headed by Prof. Dr. Zahid Iqbal. This Department has been recognized for FCPS training by the College Of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan and for MS training by the University Of Health Sciences, Lahore Pakistan. Three candidates from this Department have qualified FCPS in Urology, last year. There are three students of M.S Urology.
At the present moment, the Department Of Urology consists of a 30-Bedded Unit. It caters for Endo-Urology, Reconstructive Surgery, Open Urological Surgery and Renal Transplantation. The average patient load is as under:

Out-door Patient Department (OPD):

Twice/Week. Annual turn over is 6700.

Surgical Procedures/Year:

1320 (includes 12 Renal Transplantations)

Admission Ratio Of Patients:

Average Bed Occupancy ratio is 100%.

Radical Retropubic Prostetomy, the first in Punjab was performed in this Department in the year 2007.
30 Radical Cystectomies in last five years are also a credit to this Unit.
PCNL, another milestone, although in infancy in this Department, is probably the first institute in the Public Sector after SIUT in Pakistan where this minimal invasive facility is available is available for kidney stones.
In near future, the Department intends to establish Lithotripsy Section, Ultra-sound Facility, Per-cutaneous & Laparoscopic Urology Sections ultimately Indoor/Outdoor/Emergency & Theatre facilities under one roof..
This is the second Workshop on PNCL being arranged by this Department in the last two years.
